Thanks Unto the Lord

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! (Psalm 136:1)

One of my favorite biblical people is King David because he always recognized and never ceased to thank the Lord for his love goodness and then there was Paul in the New Testament. We are in a season of giving thanks. We have much for which to be grateful. We must never lose sight of how loving and good our God is!

David was thankful to God in all situations. In Psalm 7:17, David gives thanks for the Lord’s righteousness. In Psalm 54:6, he is thankful for God’s goodness. In Psalm 105, he praises the Lord for his wonderful deeds. In Psalm 69:29-30, David did not thank the Lord for the affliction, but he did thank and glorify him in the midst of the affliction and pain.

But as for me, afflicted and in pain—may your salvation, God, protect me. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul reminds us that:

In everything give thanks , for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

In 1 Thessalonians, Paul says to give thanks in all circumstances. That doesn’t mean that we have to be grateful for a bad situation but we can be thankful to the Lord in the situation. Paul thanks God for rescuing us from the kingdom of darkness in Colossians 1:12-14. He speaks of overflowing with thankfulness in Colossians 2:7 when we let our roots grow grow into the Lord and build our lives on him. In fact, Paul professes thanks to God 46 times!

How grateful are you, my friends, for God’s goodness and love? Let us give thanks to our all-loving God—not just in this season of thanksgiving, but every day.

Be blessed.
